Ocho Rios sits on the north coast in Saint Ann, about an hour and three quarters east of Montego Bay airport on the highway. It is the most attraction-dense part of Jamaica — Dunn’s River Falls, the Blue Hole and the river tours are all within half an hour — which makes it the easiest base for a trip built around doing things.

Where you base yourself changes the trip more than the villa does. Here is how the areas actually differ.
Straight answers
The cruise ship problem
Ocho Rios has a cruise pier, and on days when ships are docked several thousand extra people move through the same handful of attractions in the same few hours. It changes Dunn’s River, the Blue Hole and the town centre completely. Cruise schedules are published in advance, and planning your attraction days around them is the single most useful piece of local knowledge for this part of the island. Villas east of town are far enough out that it barely registers.

From the
airport
Ocho Rios is about 110 km east of Montego Bay airport, roughly an hour and three quarters on the north coast highway. A private transfer is quoted on request for up to six passengers. The highway is the fastest and smoothest road in Jamaica, and a stop at Dunn’s River Falls can be added on the way.
