Private estates
in Jamaica
An estate means land, not just a large house. Typically several acres, a main house with separate cottages or guest wings, staff quarters, often a private stretch of shoreline, and grounds maintained by a full-time team. It is the format used for family reunions, corporate retreats and weddings.
What the acreage actually buys you
Privacy that a villa cannot offer, and the ability to hold an event without disturbing anyone. On an estate you can put a marquee on a lawn, have forty people for dinner, and put the band somewhere the children sleeping in the cottage will not hear it. That is the entire point, and it is why estates are priced the way they are.
The practical realities
Estates are usually further from towns and airports, so plan for drivers rather than assuming you will pop out. Minimum stays are longer, often a week. And because the buildings are spread out, walking between your bedroom and dinner in the dark is a real thing — ask about lighting and paths if anyone in the group is unsteady on their feet.
