Rick’s Cafe,
Negril
Rick’s Cafe is a bar on the Negril cliffs known for its sunset and for the divers who jump from the surrounding rocks, the highest around 35 feet. It is the most famous single venue in Negril and correspondingly busy. Arrive well before sunset if you want anywhere to sit.
An honest opinion
Rick’s is touristy, crowded and not where locals drink. It is also genuinely spectacular at the right moment, and the divers are extraordinary. Go once, go early, have one drink and watch the sun go down — and then go somewhere quieter along the West End for dinner. Treating it as an hour rather than an evening is the trick.
If you plan to jump
People do jump, from several heights. The water is deep but there is a technique to entering it, the rocks are unforgiving, and alcohol is served throughout. Watch several people go first, and think hard about the highest platform. Every year somebody gets this wrong.
