Vacation homes
in Jamaica

A vacation home in Jamaica usually means a normal, well-kept house in a residential neighbourhood rather than a showpiece villa on the water. They are typically less staffed, less photographed and considerably cheaper, and for stays longer than a week they are often the better experience.

Why they are cheaper, and when that matters

Vacation homes cost less because they are not on the water, not fully staffed and not marketed by anyone with a photographer. For a week at a villa, the setting is most of what you are paying for and it is worth it. For a fortnight, a month, or a family visiting relatives, a house with a kitchen you actually cook in and a garden the children can be turned out into is better value and often a better time.

What you give up

No cook, usually. No caretaker on site. You will want a car or a regular driver, because you are unlikely to be walking anywhere. And the standard varies far more than at the top of the market, which is precisely why somebody needs to have seen the house before you book it.
