Things to do in
Negril
Negril divides between Seven Mile Beach, which is flat and sandy and where most of the daytime happens, and the West End cliffs, where the sunsets and the cliff bars are. Inland, YS Falls and Mayfield Falls are about an hour away and far quieter than the north coast waterfalls.
Days on the beach
Seven Mile Beach is calm, shallow and long enough to walk for an hour. Beach bars and restaurants run along most of it. Expect vendors, expect to say no politely and often, and expect the best swimming water in Jamaica.
Evenings on the cliffs
The West End is where Negril earns its reputation. Rick’s Cafe is the famous one and worth going once, early. The quieter cliff bars further along are better for dinner. A sunset catamaran cruise along this coastline is the single best two hours in Negril.
Inland, when you want a change
YS Falls is about an hour away and is a calmer, greener waterfall than anything on the north coast. Mayfield Falls is more of a gentle river walk. Both are genuinely uncrowded, which by Jamaican waterfall standards is unusual.
