YS Falls
YS Falls is a seven-tier waterfall on a working estate in Saint Elizabeth, about an hour inland from Negril. A tractor-drawn jitney takes you from the entrance up through the grounds. There are natural pools, a rope swing and a zipline, and it draws a fraction of the crowds the north coast falls do.
Why it is the better waterfall for many people
YS is greener, calmer and far less crowded than Dunn’s River, because it is nowhere near a cruise port. You are not climbing in a chain of strangers. There are lifeguards, changing rooms and a lawn to lie on, so it works well as a half day rather than a scramble.
Getting there
It is on the south side, which means an hour from Negril, roughly two from Montego Bay and a long way from Ocho Rios. Most people fold it into a south coast day with Pelican Bar or Black River rather than driving out and straight back.
