Treasure Beach
villas

Treasure Beach is a string of small fishing bays on Jamaica’s dry south coast in Saint Elizabeth, about two hours from Montego Bay. There is no resort strip and no cruise pier. The sand is darker, the water rougher, and the appeal is that it feels like a Jamaican village rather than a destination.

Which part
of Treasure Beach?

Where you base yourself changes the trip more than the villa does. Here is how the areas actually differ.

Calabash Bay The main stretch, with most of the guesthouses and villas and the nearest thing to a centre.
Frenchman’s Bay & Great Bay Smaller and quieter still. Largely private houses, some right on the water.

Straight answers

This is not a beach holiday in the usual sense

The south coast is dry and the sea here has real waves and undertow in places — it is not the flat turquoise of the north coast, and people who arrive expecting that are disappointed. What Treasure Beach offers instead is space, dark-sand bays with almost nobody on them, very good food at a handful of unmarked places, and a boat ride out to a bar built on stilts in the middle of the sea. It suits a particular kind of traveller very well and the wrong one very badly.
