Tour · YS, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica
YS Falls
YS is on a working estate in Saint Elizabeth, and it is the waterfall we send
people to when they want the experience without the coach parties. The falls step
down in a series of tiers into deep jade pools, set in old landscaped gardens with
enormous shade trees, and the whole thing is looked after properly.
You can simply swim, which is what most people do. There is also a canopy
zipline that runs over the falls, a rope swing into the main pool, and river
tubing on the river below, though tubing sometimes needs arranging in advance.
Why it is worth the drive
It is on the south side of the island, which keeps the cruise traffic away. From
a Treasure Beach villa it is close. From Negril or Montego Bay it is a proper
outing rather than a quick stop, and best combined with something else on the same
day — the Black River safari and the Pelican Bar are both nearby.
Practicalities
Allow two to four hours on site. Admission closes in the mid afternoon, so this
is a morning or early afternoon trip and not something to tack onto the end of a
day. Bring water shoes: the rock around the pools is slippery. There is a
playground and shallow water for small children.
